CHARPY PENDULUM: AN ESSENTIAL TOOL IN THE FIELD OF DESTRUCTIVE TESTS ON MATERIALS
The resilience test is a typical example of characterisation of laboratory materials that is also widely used in various production and industrial settings. It’s carried out using the Charpy pendulum, a standardised testing instrument that performs the test by using a calibrated mallet tied to a pivot, lowered onto a specimen secured at the ends.
The preparation of the sample is what characterises the resilience test: the sample is engraved using a broaching machine following specific standards.
The completion of the tests produces two main results: the resilience value, provided by the testing machine, and the lateral deformation obtained by analysing the broken sample.
Easydur offers several models of Charpy pendulum (from 300 to 750 J), which can be combined with accessories such as hydraulic broachers and climatic chambers for specimen preparation at cryogenic temperatures.
